How to Log a Meal From a Photo

Snap the plate and get foods, portions, macros and an estimated glucose response in seconds. Here's how it works and how to get accurate results.

Typing out a meal is the reason most food diaries die in week two. Photographing one takes about three seconds, which is roughly the difference between a habit that survives and one that doesn't.

How to log a meal

1

Tap the + button and snap the plate

Photograph your food before you start eating, from slightly above at an angle. The AI reads what's on the plate and estimates each food and its portion.

2

Check what it found

You'll get a list of detected foods with nutrition and an estimated glucose response for the meal. Everything is an estimate, and everything is editable.

3

Fix anything it missed

Adjust a portion, remove something that isn't there, add the olive oil it couldn't see. Hidden ingredients — oils, sauces, butter, sugar in a dressing — are the ones worth adding by hand.

4

Pick the meal type and save

Breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, then tap Log Meal. Your dashboard updates immediately.

Getting better results

  • Good light helps a lot. Daylight beats a dim restaurant every time.
  • Shoot at an angle, not straight down. Depth is what lets it judge portions.
  • Get something for scale in frame. The edge of the plate or a fork gives it a reference.
  • Separate the components if you can. A mixed stew is genuinely harder to read than the same food laid out.
  • Say what it can't see. Cooking method and added fats change the numbers meaningfully.

Not every meal suits a photo

You can also speak a meal out loud, type it in plain words, scan a barcode for a packaged item, or scan a nutrition label. Soups, smoothies and anything eaten in the dark are usually faster by voice or text.

What you get out of it

Each logged meal gives you calories and macros, an estimated glucose response, and a running daily picture on your dashboard. Over a few weeks the individual meals matter less than the pattern they form — which of your regular meals behave differently, and what actually changes when you adjust one.
