Privacy Policy

Glucoplate Inc. ("we," "us," or "the Company"), a corporation incorporated under the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of Alberta and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) of Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the GlucoPlot website and mobile apps.

How Your Data is Stored

GlucoPlot offers different data storage options depending on how you use our services:

Mobile Apps — Local-First Storage

No personally identifiable information like your name or email is sent with AI requests. When you use our iOS or Android mobile apps:

Your meals, nutrition data, glucose readings, sleep tracking, workouts, and other wellness information are stored on your device.
This data is not backed up to our servers, and we do not maintain a copy of your personal wellness records.
Because we don't keep a copy, if you uninstall the app or lose your device, this on-device data generally cannot be recovered.
AI Features: When you use AI-powered features (meal photo analysis, voice logging, or text-based meal entry), the images, audio, or text are sent transiently to our servers for AI processing. The results are returned and saved on your device. We do not store the submitted images, audio, or text permanently — see "AI-Powered Features" below for details.
Recipe & Ingredient Content: The app fetches our recipe and ingredient catalog (and recipe photos) from our servers so the content stays fresh, with a bundled copy that works offline as a backup. No personal data is sent with these requests — see "Recipe & Ingredient Content" below.

Information Stored on Your Device

The following information is stored on your device. We do not maintain a copy of this personal wellness data on our servers.

Wellness Information: Height, weight, activity level, and goals you optionally provide for personalized nutrition targets. This data is stored locally on your device.
Glucose Data: Glucose readings and related timestamps are stored locally for tracking patterns and wellness insights. We do not provide medical, dosage, or treatment advice.
Meals and Nutrition: Your food intake, meal logs, calorie data, and macronutrient tracking are stored locally on your device.
Sleep and Activity: Sleep tracking data, workout logs, and activity metrics are stored locally on your device.
Water Intake: Hydration logs and goals are stored locally on your device.
Device Integration Data: If you connect Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS), synced data is stored locally on your device.
Recipes and Preferences: Your dietary preferences, saved recipes, and nutrition targets are stored locally on your device.

Information We Receive

We receive data from your device in the following limited situations. None of these requests include personally identifiable information such as your name or email:

AI Meal Analysis: Photos, audio, or text descriptions you submit for AI analysis are sent to our servers, processed, and immediately discarded. See "AI-Powered Features" below.
Barcode Lookups: When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to look up product nutrition data.
Recipe & Ingredient Content: The app requests our recipe and ingredient catalog and recipe photos so they stay current. No personal data is sent with these requests.
Anonymous Recipe Analytics: We receive anonymous, aggregate counts of which recipes are viewed or liked (recipe identifier only, no user information) to build a popular-recipes list.
Anonymous Device ID: A non-personally-identifiable device identifier is used solely for AI feature rate limiting and abuse prevention.

AI-Powered Features & Data Processing

Our AI-powered features require sending certain content to Google's Gemini AI for processing. This content is sent transiently for processing and is not stored permanently; only the results are saved on your device. Before using any AI feature for the first time, the app will ask for your explicit consent.

What Data is Sent

Depending on the AI feature you use, the following data may be sent for processing:

Meal Photo Analysis: The photo you take of your meal is sent for food identification and portion estimation.
Voice Meal Logging: Your audio recording describing your meal is sent for transcription and nutritional analysis.
Text Meal Analysis: The text description you type about your meal is sent for nutritional analysis.
Receipt Scanning: Photos of grocery receipts are sent for item identification and price extraction.
AI Recipe Suggestions: Your dietary preferences and optionally your pantry ingredients are sent to generate personalized recipe ideas.
AI Meal Planning: Your dietary preferences and nutrition targets are sent to generate meal plans.
Nutrition Chat: Your chat messages and today's nutrition context (calories, macros, meals logged) are sent for conversational AI responses. Conversation history is sent for context within a session but is not permanently stored on our servers.

What is NOT sent: No personally identifiable information — such as your name or email — is included with AI requests. For coaching features (weekly reports, workout plans), aggregated wellness summaries may be sent for analysis. Only the specific content you choose to analyze is transmitted.

Who Processes Your Data

AI analysis is currently performed using Google's Gemini generative AI model through our secure proxy servers. Our AI provider may change at any time. Results are approximate and may vary between analyses of the same content. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any AI-generated nutritional information. Your data is transmitted securely using HTTPS encryption. Google processes your data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

How Your Data is Handled

Data is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored on our servers or by Google Gemini.
Images, audio files, and text descriptions are processed and immediately discarded after analysis.
Only the extracted nutritional results (food names, calories, macronutrients) are returned to your device and stored locally.
We do not use your meal data to train AI models.
You can choose to manually log meals without using AI features if you prefer no data to leave your device.

Your Consent

The app will request your explicit consent before sending any data to Google's Gemini AI for the first time. You can use all other features of the app (manual meal logging, water tracking, glucose tracking, recipes, etc.) without ever using AI features or sending data to external services. You may revoke your AI data consent at any time in the app's settings.

Recipe & Ingredient Content

The app displays a catalog of recipes and ingredients, including recipe photos. To keep this content fresh and accurate, the app fetches the recipe and ingredient catalog and recipe images from our servers (hosted on Cloudflare). A bundled copy of this content ships with the app and works offline as a backup if the network is unavailable.

No personal data is sent with these content requests. They retrieve catalog and image data only.
These requests are not tied to your name, email, or wellness data.
If you are offline, the app uses its bundled copy of the catalog so you can keep browsing recipes.

Anonymous Recipe Analytics

To help surface popular recipes, we collect anonymous, aggregate counts of which recipes are viewed and liked.

These counts record a recipe identifier only — no user information is attached.
The data is aggregate and cannot be used to identify you or reconstruct your individual activity.
We use it solely to build a list of popular recipes within the app.

Wellness, Not a Medical Device

GlucoPlot is a general wellness app. It is not a medical device and has not been evaluated, cleared, or approved by the FDA, Health Canada, or any other regulatory body. All features — including meal logging, glucose tracking, connected-sensor data display, nutritional analysis, and wellness insights — are provided for informational and general wellness purposes only. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Always consult a qualified professional for health decisions.

How Your Information is Used

Most processing happens on your device. The exceptions are transient AI processing and the content/analytics requests described above:

To calculate personalized nutrition targets based on the metrics you choose to provide.
To provide meal and recipe suggestions based on your dietary preferences.
Glucose Data: To track glucose patterns and provide wellness insights. We never provide medical, dosage, or treatment advice.
Nutrition Tracking: To help you monitor daily caloric intake and track nutrition goals.
Sleep and Activity: To calculate sleep scores and track fitness trends.
AI features use your meal content (photos, voice, text) solely for nutritional analysis. This data is processed in real-time and immediately discarded.

Data Security and Wellness Information

We take data security seriously. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information.

Local Storage Security: Data stored locally on your mobile device is protected by your device's built-in security features (passcode, biometrics, encryption).

Wellness Data Protection: Glucose readings, calorie data, and other wellness information are stored on your device and are not sold or shared with third parties for their own purposes. We do not maintain a server-side copy of this data.

Data Retention: Wellness data is retained only as long as necessary to provide services or as required by law. You can request deletion of your data at any time.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share data with third parties only in the following limited circumstances:

Google Gemini AI: When you use AI-powered features, your meal content is sent to Google's Gemini AI for processing. This requires your explicit consent, which is requested before first use.
Firebase (Google): We use Firebase for app integrity checks, analytics, and crash reporting.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or legal process.

Wellness Data Sharing: Your glucose readings, calorie tracking data, sleep data, workout data, and wellness notes are not sold or shared with advertisers or other users. This information is stored on your device and is used to provide you with personalized wellness insights.

Your Choices and Control

On-Device Storage: On mobile apps, your wellness data is stored on your device. When you use AI features, no personally identifiable information like your name or email is sent — only the specific content you choose to analyze.
You can update or remove your personal information, including wellness metrics, at any time through your profile settings.
You may choose not to provide profile information; this will limit personalized nutrition recommendations but will not affect other services.
Glucose Tracking: You can enable or disable glucose tracking at any time. All glucose data can be deleted from your settings.
Calorie Tracking: You can turn off calorie tracking features and delete historical calorie data at any time.
Device Connections: You can disconnect any connected devices (sensors, fitness trackers) and delete associated data at any time.
You can hide nutrition information from your dashboard at any time.
You may opt out of marketing communications.
You can request deletion of all your associated data.

Data Loss Disclaimer

Important: Because your wellness data is stored on your device and we do not keep a backup copy, the following actions will result in permanent, irreversible data loss:

Deleting the app — Uninstalling GlucoPlot removes all your meals, recipes, glucose readings, sleep data, activity logs, water intake, and preferences.
Losing or replacing your device — Your data does not transfer to a new device automatically.
Factory resetting your device — All app data is erased along with everything else on your device.
Clearing app data (Android: Settings > Apps > GlucoPlot > Clear Data) — This deletes all stored information.

We cannot recover this data because we do not keep a backup copy of your on-device records on our servers.

Children's Privacy

Our services are not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page.

Your Rights Under Canadian Privacy Law

Under PIPEDA and Alberta's PIPA, you have the right to:

Know what personal information we hold about you
Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information
Withdraw consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information
File a complaint regarding our privacy practices

Since the mobile apps store your wellness data on your device and we do not retain a copy of it on our servers beyond transient AI processing, there is generally no persistent personal data to access or delete on our end. Your on-device data can be deleted by removing content within the app or uninstalling the app.
