How to Pair a CGM With a Food Log
A continuous glucose monitor shows you the curve. A food log tells you what caused it. Here's how to use both together without it becoming a chore.
A continuous glucose monitor is very good at one thing: showing you a line. What it cannot tell you is why the line did what it did. Two hours later, staring at a rise at 1:40pm, the question is always the same — what exactly did I eat?
That gap is the whole reason to pair a sensor with a food log. The sensor supplies the curve; the log supplies the cause. Neither is worth much alone.
The problem with logging
Most people who try this quit within two weeks, and it's almost always for the same reason: typing out every ingredient and hunting through a database for “medium banana” is tedious enough that you stop doing it, usually right when the data would have started being useful.
So the practical question isn't whether to log — it's how to make logging fast enough that you keep going.

What to actually look for

- Swaps that hold up. If a change looks better once, it might be noise. If it looks better five times, it's a pattern.
- How you felt. Energy after lunch is data too, and it's often the thing that actually motivates a change.
