How to Back Up and Restore Your GlucoPlot Data

GlucoPlot keeps everything on your device, so a backup is how your meals, workouts and history survive a new phone or a reinstall. Manual and automatic iCloud backup on iPhone, Google's automatic backup on Android.

GlucoPlot doesn't have accounts and doesn't keep your data on our servers — your meals, workouts, recipes and history live on your phone. That's good for privacy and it means the app works offline, but it also means that if you delete the app and reinstall it, it starts fresh. A backup is how you carry your history to a new phone, or get it back after a reinstall.

iPhone

Everything is under Settings → Data & Storage → Backup & Restore. There are two kinds, and they're independent — you can use either or both.

Automatic iCloud backup

1

Turn on Keep a backup in iCloud

One switch. From then on GlucoPlot keeps a single up-to-date copy in your own iCloud account — it goes to your iCloud, not to us. The screen shows when the last backup ran.

2

To restore, reinstall and tap Restore from iCloud

The backup survives deleting the app. On a new phone signed into the same Apple account, install GlucoPlot, open Backup & Restore and choose Restore from iCloud. If the backup is still downloading from iCloud, give it a moment and try again.

3

Close the app completely and reopen it

The restore is applied on the next launch. Swipe the app away from the app switcher and open it again — your data is back when it starts.

Meal photos are not included in the automatic backup to keep it small. You can delete the iCloud copy at any time from the same screen.

Manual backup file

1

Tap Save a backup, then Back up now

GlucoPlot writes one file — this one does include your meal photos — and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Save it to iCloud Drive, Files, or anywhere else you keep things.

2

To restore, tap Restore a backup and choose the file

Pick the file from wherever you saved it. Restoring replaces everything currently in the app with the contents of the backup, and there is no undo, so the app asks before doing anything.

3

Close the app completely and reopen it

Same as the iCloud route: the restore finishes on relaunch.

Moving to a new iPhone?

If you use Apple's own device-to-device transfer or an iCloud device backup when setting up the new phone, GlucoPlot's data usually comes across with it. The in-app backup is the belt to that pair of braces — worth turning on either way.

Android

On Android, GlucoPlot's data is included in Google's automatic app backup, which runs in the background when your phone is charging, idle and on Wi‑Fi. There's no separate backup screen to set up.

  • Check it's on: phone Settings → Google → Backup (wording varies slightly by manufacturer). Make sure “App data” is included.
  • Restore: when you set up a new phone or reinstall with the same Google account, Android offers to restore app data. Accept, and GlucoPlot's history comes back with it.
  • Privacy note: because of this, uninstalling the app does not remove the copy held in your Google backup. To delete that as well, remove GlucoPlot's data from the backup in the same Google → Backup screen.

Good habits

  • Turn on the automatic option and forget about it.
  • Before a phone upgrade or a factory reset, take a manual backup file too. Two copies cost nothing.
  • Connections to Apple Health or Health Connect are not part of a backup — reconnect them after a restore (how to do that).

Everyone responds to food differently — talk to a qualified healthcare professional about your own health, and never change medication or treatment based on anything you read here or see in the app.
